Springtime 2018
After a very dark, wet, but very mild winter, asking myself does the sun still excist
it's finaly springtime. Fantastic to see color is coming in to the garden again. The Helleborus
was already bringing flowers on the 12th of february. Normaly at that time of the
year I cut of the old foliage of this perenial and the small buds are for the first time
to welcome. At that same time I thought I can start rosepruning. But I am greatfull
I did not because a period of heavy frost and ice cold stormy winds coming from
the north east. A lot of the Helleborusflowers were damaged but the plant recoverd
itself. Already new growth in the roses at that same time, and no damage to see in the
roses.
Helleborus
Iris
Camelia
New growth in the roses. A moment of hope
But the cold also brings the birds into the garden.
The o so welcome color of the Crocus

Pulmonaria
I know i have being away from the blog for a long time but. The problem
is that I have no idea what to write about during the wintertime (lol).
Have a wonderful week ahead

Marijke, springtime is definitely in your garden! Your Camellias are gorgeous and the Hellebores look terrific too. I hope your roses reward you with lots of wonderful blooms. Here the horribly hot summer claimed many victims among my roses the survivors are slowly coming back to life with the cooler days of fall. Wish you a happy Easter!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThanks a lot MDN I am so greatfull that the horrible dark winterdays are gone. It's a shame
Verwijderenfor a roselover like you to get damage at the roses by the heath you have during your summers. I am to late to wish you a happy easter but I hope it's was a great easter to you.
Have a wonderful day.
Rosehugs Marijke
Hello Marijke
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWe have just the same weather here, but I have pruned my roses. I hope that all will be well.
Happy Easter.

Lisbeth
Hello dear Lisbeth,
VerwijderenPruningtime for the roses must cost you a lot of time. In my little garden I was ready within 2 days (fun). I hope you had a great Easter.
Rosehugs Marijke
Hallo en aardig dat je bent. Helaas was deze winter verschrikkelijk en liet ik de lente niet komen. Het is goed dat je geen schade aan de tuin hebt en de bloemen hebben het gehaald. Met vriendelijke groeten.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenHello dear Giga,
VerwijderenIt's better for us to forget about the dark winter days. Time to go out and enjoy the spells of sunshine.
Have a wonderful day.
Rosehugs Marijke
Hello dear Marijke!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenNice that you are back in bloglandia :)
I envy your early spring! I hope sping comes soon here too.
Beautiful springflowers!
Rosehugs, Marit
Good morning dear Marit,
VerwijderenIt's great to see the garden is coming back to live again. At this moment of the year I feel
so much better as I do during the dark winter days. We did have a lot of heavy rain overhere and when I look outside now I can't believe that it will be full of flowers in a couple of weeks. My little garden looks like a swamp at the moment (lol). I hope for you spring will
come in soon too!!
Have a wonderful day
Rosehugs Marijke
Lovely to see all these signs of spring in your garden, Marijka! My Hellebores have buds on them, but they're not quite ready to bloom. It's been a cold, very wet spring here so far--I am longing for some sunshine so I can finally get out and work in the garden, but the forecast doesn't look promising for awhile. Good to have you back, and Happy Easter!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenHello dear Rose,
VerwijderenI am greatfull that winter is gone now. I can imagine how much you are looking forward
to have some sunshine and warmer temperatures. At the moment my little garden looks
more as a swamp than a garden. We did have so much rain. But better weather is on it's way.
And I hope the weather will be better for you soon!!
Have a wonderful day
Rosehugs Marijke
I am glad your weather is improving ahead of the Easter holiday, giving you the opportunity to enjoy your beautiful hellebores. I am sure the roses will start their spring celebration soon too! It sounds as though you have had the same kind of relentless winter experienced by those in the eastern parts of the US. In my area of coastal Southern California, we do not get winter freezes, much less snow. Unfortunately, we also did not get much in the way of rain this year either and our short rainy season is about to come to an end. the coming summer may be a tough one for us as the drought has returned.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenGoodmorning dear Kris,
VerwijderenI don't mind having a winter with cold and sun but overhere we had dark grey sky's since
september. And lots and lots of rain. But having that extreme drought is also no what we want to have. Do you notice that the climat is changing? But still I am jelaouse about your vieuw in the garden having color and beauty the whole year round (fun). I hope you can say at the end of the year that the feared drought did not damage the garden.
Have a wonderful day.
rosehugs Marijke
Hello Marijke!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI do understand you - what to write in dark and cold winter? In that time I try to take photos when the sun is shining. Therefore I like your photos of spring, hellebore is such pretty flower!
happy Easter!
Sorry for the late answering but I was outside pruning and fertelize the roses and clean up
Verwijderena bit. Helleborus is a very thankfull plant to have in the garden. And they do seed out also.
Bringing new kind of colors. Always a exciting moment. The darknes of our winters is what I don't like. Cold is not something to worry about but I miss the light of the sun and I am
greatfull with every sunny moment we have at the moment.
Have a wonderful weekend ahead.
Rosehugs Marijke
I am so happy to see you here, dear Marijke!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWe had a long, cold, and snowy winter, and even though today is April 1st, we are still sitting below freezing. :-(
No green or color here yet, and I think it will be a while before we see it. it is SO nice to come here to see the beginning of your beautiful spring.
Thank you for sharing, and Happy Easter, sweet friend!
xo.
Hello dear Lisa,
VerwijderenFrom today on we will have beautiful weather finaly. The garden, well I better call it a
swamp at the moment, is coming back to live again. It brings me a lot of beautiful energy
to go outside haha and also feeling muscles that I thought I did not have it anymore (lol) but thats the age of 60 brings. Never mind. I keep my fingers crossed that you can enjoy
springstime very soon.
Rosehugs xxxxxx Marijke
I am happy to see that spring has arrived in your garden, Marijke!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI really love hellebores. Such beautiful plants. I like your camellia. I too bought some camellias this year. I will plant them in the garden. I am not sure whether they will survive the winters in Vienna, but I think in a protected area in my garden they have good chances.
Enjoy your lovely garden!
Best wishes,
Lisa
Hello dear Lisa,
VerwijderenIt's so great to hear from you!! The Camelia's need a place where the wintersun don't warm
the soil to much. The shock at a to sheltered place in the garden from the wintersun and nightcold is a thing it does not like. But for the rest they are easy to grow and the flowers so early in the season are fantastic and so welcome.
Have a wonderful weekend ahead.
Rosehugs Marijke
Goodmorning dear Siam Moi,
VerwijderenIt's so fantastic to see the garden coming back to life again. I feel such a different emotion in my body. The garden is still very very wet need big boots to go in looks more like a swamp as it is a garden (lol). But fantastic springweather is on it's way. Time to be outside!!!!
Have a wonderful weekend ahead!!
Rosehugs Marijke
I hope you have good weather soon so you can blog so we can see more of your beautiful plants. I wish my 'Abraham Darby' rose was as beautiful as yours. Mine is only 30 cm tall! It gets smaller every year instead of bigger.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI like the dark rich colors of you Hellebore flowers, and the bright Crocus. Many wishes for sunny days ahead for your garden.
Good morning dear Hoover Boo,
VerwijderenIt's great that better weather is on it's way finaly. The garden (well I can call it a swamp) is coming back to live again. A thing that makes me so happy!!! And about the Austin Roses.
I don't understand when I read on the internet how wonderful they are. I have several of them but the only 3 that really do well are Pat Austin, James Galway and A Shropshire Lad.
Also in my garden I am doubting to get the rest out. Sometimes I think this roses don't want to get pruned. A lot of them are not easy to grow at all. I am happy when new canes on this roses arrive but a month later they are compleetly yellow and die. I have no idea what to do about it. The roses that do very well in my garden are the historical ones and the Gallica's. The only thing on this last two kind of roses is that they don't repeat flowering later in the year.
Have a wonderful weekend ahead.
Rosehugs Marijke
